I recently spoke with Chris Lehnen of iRoom iO to talk about the iRoom iO integrator advantage, lighting and shading control and more! Part 2. (Part 1 here)

Maureen Jenson: Most Integrators are using dedicated Touchscreens as the Control interface.  What’s the advantage of using an iPad with one of your new Docks?

Chris Lehnen: The most significant advantage is the ability to remove the iPad for use throughout the space.  There are many applications where clients benefit from this feature.  Most projects include at least one mobile device for convenience.  An iPad and an advanced Dock from iRoom iO are an incredible combination.  Second, an iPad is capable of so much more when compared to a dedicated touchscreen.  Some people love the fact that they can check email, schedule an appointment or FaceTime with family from one central device.  Finally, the cost of an iPad and an iRoom iO Dock can significantly impact overall cost.  This is especially true when you look at iPad mini and our motorized miniDock.  With this combination you get the best value available from Apple and iRoom iO.

MJ: Lights and Shades have become a big business in recent years.  Tell us more about your Light & Shade Control.

CL: Our team of Engineers have been hard at work developing iO Smart Control.  Our universal open platform allows the integrator to convert any switch into a smart switch for simple light & shade control with our line of relays.  Control is accomplished through the physical switch, any of the major voice control platforms or via app.  IO Smart Control will also integrate with 3rd party Control systems.  The biggest value to the Integrator is the ability to wirelessly control lights and shades with any major Control system over the WiFi network.  This will prove to be useful on retrofits and whenever a control wire is missed.

MJ: Is iO Smart Control meant to be used as a standalone system or as an accessory to a Control system?

CL: We’re focused on our capabilities as an accessory to the Control system.  Integrators have well established relationships with their Control brands.  Many have invested a great deal of resources to be proficient with these systems. There are times when it is physically impossible or cost-prohibitive to run a Control wire to some locations.  iO Smart Control will prove to be a useful solution to this problem.

MJ: Many Integrators are looking for solutions for contactless control these days. What solutions does iRoom iO have to offer?

CL: Our advanced Docks include a proximity sensor which allows the iPad to wake up and launch a specific application at the wave of a hand.  This allows for a great reduction in surface contact by the user.  Voice control has come a long way and may be the best solution for contactless control.  Our iO Smart Control Relays are controllable via voice command.  At launch, iO Smart Control will be compatible with Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa and Google Home with more in the works.
