I sat down recently with Eric Higgs, Founder of LumaStream, to talk about lighting, integrator support and a new partnership.
Maureen Jenson: Tell us about LumaStream products and the unique value proposition you bring to the custom installation industry?
Eric Higgs: First off, lighting represents an enormous opportunity for A/V integrators, and LumaStream offers a low-voltage LED lighting solution that is modern, energy-efficient and frees the integrator from being dependent on a licensed electrician. We offer our unique, patented, digital power conversion platform paired with well-designed luminaires and open source control protocol to residential, commercial, institutional, medical, retail, and hospitality markets that outperforms other low-voltage solutions such as PoE (power over Ethernet). We’re a fast-growing, creative company developing efficient systems with unprecedented results for energy savings, long-distance low voltage power distribution, and smooth, and long-distance flicker-free faultless dimming. For the first time in the A/V industry, integrators have a premium lighting brand that will support them with best-in-class products, advanced design services as well as top-notch customer service and tech support. All of this equates to tremendous revenue opportunities for integrators.
MJ: How does LumaStream support its dealers in what is a brave new world to many A/V integrators?
EH: LumaStream provides in-person product and sales training, marketing materials such as case studies and webinars, and sophisticated lighting design services. Once integrators gain a comfort level with the LumaStream line and begin selling and installing our systems, we are realizing significant repeat orders and increased excitement over the potential for their businesses. In addition to these forms of support, LumaStream represents a very important opportunity for integrators. Our remote driver LED fixtures can be nearly any form factor and run cool, enabling a degree of installation flexibility that has been unheard of until now. And because A/V integrators are in charge of the control platform on each jobsite, owning the lighting portion of the job removes much mystery and guesswork verses working with a dedicated lighting contractor. In the end, the client gets a seamless smart environment that works flawlessly every time.
MJ: Are products sold through distribution?
EH: LumaStream does not sell products through traditional distribution. We sell directly to integrators and ship from our manufacturing facility in Saint Petersburg, FL.
MJ: What products did you show at CEDIA Expo?
EH: Most notably, our tunable white light systems (Kelvin-changing), Human Centric Lighting (HCL) low-voltage LED lighting solution. We were alongside partner Vantage Controls. This initiative combines LumaStream’s U.S.-designed tunable fixtures and patented remote drivers with the advanced lighting control capabilities offered by Legrand brand Vantage Controls.
Stay tuned for next week’s part two, when Eric shares one of his commercial case study success stories!
