A lot of companies and individuals have joined together to put on a special concert and evening during CEDIA 2017 in support of female victims of trafficking.  I sat down with Vital MGMT’s Paul Starkey, who is spearheading the charitable event, to find out more about the upcoming Queen of Hearts benefit concert.

Maureen Jenson: First of all, tell us about this worthy cause and what you’ve got planned for the concert?

Paul Starkey: Our mission is to generate funds for a safe house in San Diego County to help restore the lives of women and girls who have been victims of sex trafficking. In the US alone, sex trafficking of minors is the number two revenue-generating crime and a widespread problem in virtually all major cities. Recovery from the pain, anguish and abuse these victims suffer requires intense resources. GenerateHope, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization, helps victims through long-term housing, healing, psychotherapy and education and will be the beneficiary of the proceeds we raise at the event. The festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 7, at one of the best venues in San Diego, Humphries Concerts By The Bay. The benefit features a painting exhibition by Leon Speakers’ President Noah Kaplan, Creedence Forever, the nation’s supreme Creedence Clearwater Revival tribute band from Chicago, as well as the honoring of influential women in our industry and other surprises.

MJ: Wow! That sounds fantastic. Who else is helping and sponsoring the event?

PS: We have received tremendous support from SnapAV, Origin Acoustics, HTSA, Surge X and GoVision, along with Leon Speakers, Women in Consumer Technology, One Firefly, Cat Toomey and CATalyzing Communications. And, numerous individuals in the industry are supporting us with generous donations. All proceeds will go to GenerateHope and specifically for the New Venture Hope Center, a planned safe house in North County of San Diego, CA. The funds are restricted and will be used only for operating the safe house, including lodging, therapy, education and other direct expenses. The safe house and general organizational expenses are provided by GenerateHope from other sources.

MJ: Fantastic. Are there tickets still available for the show?

PS: Tickets are almost sold out. I think we have less than 100 tickets still available. If you’re interested in attending, shoot me an email at
