I sat down recently with Mark Corbin, president of Vanco to discuss changes in management, his new role, and where he sees Vanco heading next.
Maureen Jenson: Hi Mark, Vanco recently announced changes to the executive team in which you were promoted. Can you tell us a little bit about what your new responsibilities entail?
Mark Corbin: Yes, we made some exciting new changes to our management team in January and announced several promotions including mine to President. I’ve been with Vanco for over seven years, previously as Vice President, and before that as Director of Distribution Markets. In my new role as President, I am responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of Vanco’s staff and the company’s four brands: Vanco, Evolution, Pulse Audio and Beale Street Audio. I also work closely with and provide direction to the executive team to execute the company’s key strategies, such as growing the company’s business in its core brands, as well as seeking out and adding new product categories and markets to better serve our customers.
MJ: How do you feel your background with Vanco has prepared you for your new role as President?
MC: In my previous roles, I was heavily involved in all aspects of the company’s day-to-day and strategic operations. Since joining the company in 2011, I have taken part in a few key patented product introductions and brand acquisitions that contributed to consistent growth for the distribution markets division and helped to solidify our position as an innovative, leading company in the AV market today.
Working in various roles across Vanco, I’ve learned the importance of maintaining our core beliefs across every aspect of the business including always putting our customers first, because without them we would not exist as a company at all. It sounds simple but at the end of the day, it is our responsibility to provide our customers with the tools they need to be successful and exceed expectations. Our company culture upholds this belief in everything we do, and combined with quality products and incredibly talented staff, I have no doubt that Vanco will continue to grow and succeed as a leading manufacturer in the AV industry, as well as into other exciting avenues in the future.
MJ: Speaking of the future, where do you see Vanco headed next? Can you give us and our readers a glimpse of the road map ahead?
MC: In the short-term, I look forward to expanding our current Beale Street Audio line and launching some exciting new HDMI over IP products under the Vanco and Evolution brands. Our product roadmap for 2018 is solid and I know our distributors and dealers will be really excited about it and benefit from what’s coming down the pipe this year.
Long term, we will continue to develop unique and innovative products that cater to installer needs, are ahead of the curve and help to grow our current brands, while also seeking out other relevant brands to add to the Vanco umbrella. I’d also like to see us coming out with more products that crossover into the commercial and security markets as the lines between residential and commercial AV, plus surveillance continue to blur. One thing is for sure, you’ll be seeing and hearing a lot from Vanco in the future.
MJ: It’s interesting you mention the crossover between the AV and security markets. Can you tell us a little bit more about this and where you see the AV market heading?
MC: Yes, we are definitely seeing more crossover between security, commercial, and residential markets. And, with the growing popularity of smart devices with consumers, we think the line between these markets will continue to blur and become more intertwined. No longer will there be integrators specific to residential AV, commercial AV or security. More than ever before, integrators need to be a jack of all trades because there is an expectation from the customer that all of the technology in their environment should work together as one system and can be monitored and controlled from the palm of their hand.
The addition of 4K with HDR has also been a game changer in the AV industry, and has created demand for increased bandwidth from extenders and cables. We have seen growth in fiber in the commercial AV space as well, but the most in demand features are still bandwidth and distance. In 2018 it is essential to offer quality products with these two features at a competitive price. Also, with the rise in popularity of streaming services and voice control, as a manufacturer, it has never been more important to offer high-quality wireless speakers and AV systems that are easy to setup and control.
MJ: How can distributors and integrators benefit from working with Vanco International?
MC: As mentioned previously, the Vanco culture is all about putting the customer first, so distributors and integrators benefit from working with a company that prioritizes listening to their needs. We are proud to offer superior customer support that is just a phone call away or as of recently live online chat (via the Vanco website). We also offer industry leading warranty terms, technical support and trainings so our customers know they are taken care of from the start of a job to many years down the road.
Our one-stop-shop business model means that purchasing from a Vanco distributor allows integrators to save valuable time, and the quality and reliability of Vanco’s products combined with aggressive pricing also helps integrators save money, increase profits and better position themselves for success.
