I sat down with Taft Stricklin, Sales Team Manager for Just Add Power to talk about CEDIA, new products and partnerships, and what’s in store for 2018.
Maureen Jenson: Tell me all the latest with Just Add Power and new product introductions.
Taft Stricklin: We’ve just had a huge show at CEDIA, where we debuted new software updates and products. The two standouts are the 3G+4+ Tiling Transmitter, which is our 4K network video tiler. It’s a crazy flexible device, so you can apply it to any residential or commercial installation where you need multiview functionality. It provides video support for resolutions up to full 4K and HDR compatibility. Our latest firmware rollout across all our product line is the Switch Please web app. Switch Please allows matrix switching of J+P devices from any browser – phone, tablet, Mac, you name it. It’s easy to setup, and the dynamically generated system gives users the ability to use Image Pull for live video preview, custom name their sources and displays, and show/hide displays and sources on the app interface.
MJ: AV over IP continues to be a trending topic with sales growth projected to increase year over year. What is driving that growth?
TS: Everything is connected to the network now – touchpanels, doorbells, refrigerators, video intercom, the list goes on for miles. In the past two years integrators and the market have really embraced the technology that’s cheaper and much more flexible than traditional matrix switching. Our offering is infinitely scalable, so we can match any size installation, put as many images as we want in as many configurations as we want, with a minimal hardware footprint and low latency.
MJ: You had a huge CEDIA this year, leveraging your partnership with Luxul and RTI. How do these strategic partnerships work for the benefit of the integrator?
TS: Video distribution is always going to need control and hardware to carry the signal – so for us it’s a natural partnership as well as a strategic one. If we can support an integrator by giving them the best tools that we know work well together, we’re ensuring a quality install, which makes those customers thrive, and ultimately come back to us. Plus, we love the guys from RTI and Luxul, which makes the working relationship much more satisfying.
MJ: J+P threw quite the party at CEDIA. Can you tell us all about that?
TS: We really wanted to provide an industry event that wasn’t an industry event, but a kick ass rock show. Look, we all work ridiculously hard to get to CEDIA, and we wanted to throw a party for 650 of our closest friends to celebrate that. So naturally if you’re in San Diego, you book the House of Blues, set up an awesome photo booth, and book the best band you can find, which in this case was Fan Halen. They really brought the crowd to their feet and they even let me join them on stage for a number. It was a huge success and the only downside is that we have to top it next year!
MJ: Where is Just Add Power headed, what are your goals for 2018 and beyond?
TS: The beauty of our product line is that we can build on the past to expand into the future. Since our solutions are all evolutionary, the box that you bought in 2008 is still going to work with the box you buy in 2020. For the future, we’re exploring all the avenues where AV over IP hasn’t been tapped yet, or is really looking to explode in growth. Anything from education, healthcare, residential, live events, to houses of worship are all on our radar.
