I recently sat down with Ron Perron of HCA Distributing, a Catalyst AV distribution network member. I wanted to learn more about the growth of the commercial market they have experienced.

Maureen Jenson: Hi Ron. I understand you just became a Harman Professional distributor. How does this benefit the dealers in your territories?

Ron Perron: Previously, if one were not direct with Harman, the closest distributors were national distributors on the coasts. By HCA becoming a Harman distributor, this provides Harman products far closer to my dealer customers who are located in Colorado; and regionally in Utah, Wyoming, eastern Idaho, western Montana, New Mexico, and El Paso, Texas,

 

MJ: How will you work with the dealers so they can make more money with Harman Pro products?

RP: HCA having the product will pretty much eliminate freight when orders are over $750, if they order on our website. We will also be hosting Harman Pro training starting in Q1 of 2019.

MJ:  What does this mean for your commercial business overall and what type of facilities are these commercial grade products going in? For example, churches, concert venues, etc.?

RP: The addition of Harman Professional will solidify our position on the map with regards to commercial product offerings. It seems that no one in the region is stocking much in the way of commercial products. We’ll have a suite of commercial products including JBL & Crown, Vivitek Projectors, along with their NoVo Pro BYOD and Digital Signage products, Plenum Bulk Wire, EPV Screens, AVProEdge HDMI products and their new Canvas Control System (which really seems to be taking off), and other commercial focused products in our mix. Atlona continues to be an important part of our commercial mix as well.

Our primary markets for commercial products are boardrooms, bars and restaurants, small music venues, corporate offices, and medial offices. We also see some activity in schools and churches.

 

MJ:  How do you see your commercial market expanding in 2019?

RP: I am predicting a five-fold increase in commercial business in 2019, partially from the influence of the Harman brands, and partially from the specific focus we are bringing to bear on the category. With the consolidation occurring in the distribution business, I see commercial as a conduit for our continued growth and success and a bulwark against the fast changing distribution landscape.
