The NPD Group just launched our Checkout Tracking℠ E-commerce service for the technology industry. The service will provide clients an in-depth understanding of online consumer electronics sales, which is becoming increasingly important for manufacturers and retailers alike. Among consumer electronics categories seeing strong annual online dollar sales growth in the U.S. are: streaming audio speakers (80 %), smart lighting (74 %), and security & monitoring devices (56 %)*.

Ian Hamilton, President, Technology Sector for The NPD Group weighed in as follows, “Given the growth we are seeing in online consumer electronics sales, it’s important that our technology clients better understand trends in the channel to optimize their potential for success. We’re excited that the Checkout Tracking E-commerce service will allow insight into which technology categories are selling best online, where they’re selling, and who’s buying them. With this information marketers and manufacturers will be better prepared to plan for new product development, assess competition, and develop marketing strategies.”

Checkout Tracking data is mined from millions of consumer receipts, which are then benchmarked against NPD’s point-of-sale and consumer survey data, to provide a complete e-commerce market picture. Data is delivered via syndicated dashboards for easy access to critical information.

Andy Mantis, Executive Vice President of Checkout Tracking added this, “Since 2014, Checkout Tracking has been providing clients detailed information on consumer buying behavior, based on receipts for both online and brick-and-mortar retail purchases. Now our e-commerce service will provide technology companies with a much needed view into total online consumer spend and share of wallet by retailer, category or buyer.”
