I recently sat down with Tom Doherty, Director Special Projects,  Home Technology Specialists of America (HTSA) about the group’s pre-CEDIA EXPO “Tomapallooza” to be held in Denver.

Maureen Jenson: Hey Tom, tell the readers of Technology Insider Group what exactly you have planned for the lead-in to this year’s CEDIA EXPO in Denver?

Tom Doherty: Thanks Maureen. Yes we are very excited this year to hold “Tomapallooza” trainings Sept. 10 and 11 in Parker, Colorado (20 minutes from downtown) to meet the needs of the HTSA membership.

MJ: HTSA has been working non-stop on member education and training. It is really gratifying to see what is being accomplished by and for the HTSA membership.

TD: Thanks and yes, the various Lighting Master Class levels I created have been well received by the HTSA membership over the past two years. As these members’ employees return from the training and as our member companies further process the importance and opportunity of getting into the lighting category, the need for immediate trainings has increased.

We are also now experiencing the same level of interest after conducting three DELOS Darwin trainings (health and wellness platform for the home environment). Since so many of our members are coming to Denver to attend EXPO, and now for the most part, just attend the show floor portion of the conference, I felt that with some notice that we would have several of our members willing to fly in a day or two early, and or send some of their employees that they might otherwise not send to EXPO, to attend trainings.

We are offering both Lighting Level I and Level II and DELOS training the days prior to the EXPO. Additionally we are inviting our lighting vendors to offer manufacturer specific product training. Lastly, I will conduct a training/seminar on what it takes to be successful in adding lighting as a category based on my personal experience from eight years demonstrating, designing and providing lighting to my clients in Indiana.

MJ: So what are the locations, classes, dates and times of the trainings?

TD: The trainings are in Parker, Colorado (20 minutes from downtown) at our member Xssentials facility. This facility is the perfect training venue:
