I’m sure you remember your mom telling you, “If you don’t have anything nice to say about someone . . . “ Well, being nice isn’t really that difficult. We all know this. And here’s the point I want to make as it pertains to social media:
Being nice should be your foundation in social. I know there are trolls out there and they can say the meanest things, but you cannot let that intimidate you or allow it to get you off of your game. I am not advocating that you put up with abuse, but it is important to handle situations like this as a mature, professional adult. Remember, people are watching! With screenshots, your ugly responses will never be forgotten.
I talked last week about Trust in the Brand, and how building trust on social only has positive results for your company. Being nice goes a long way at reinforcing the positive image you ultimately want to build for your brand.
So just be nice! You want to be remembered as the person who is nice, your company and brand want to be known as a nice company and a nice brand. If you don’t have something nice to say . . . don’t say it.
